Jaime Martínez Llabrés announces a new public employment call for 90 positions, of which 20 are intended to reinforce the Bombers de Palma.
The Governing Board gives the green light to a new offer of positions that, combined with the one approved in January, totals 360, a historic figure aimed at strengthening various areas of the Ajuntament. Adding the 9 positions granted the previous year, in 2025 a selection process will be launched for 29 firefighters.
Palma, March 12, 2025.- The Mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez Llabrés, has announced the approval by the Governing Board this Wednesday of a new expansion of the public employment offer for 2025, with a total of 90 positions, of which 20 are intended to bolster the Bombers de Palma, and also includes 3 officer positions.
According to Martínez Llabrés, this increase, supported by the majority unions, will allow the call for a selection process in 2025 for a total of 29 new personnel, after, as he has denounced, the body was reduced by 10 positions between 2015 and 2023 due to the «neglect of previous legislatures.»
The budgets for this year already included the creation of 12 positions, but with this new call, and in response to the mayor’s commitment, they have been increased to 20, of which 12 are newly created.
During his speech, the first councilor of Cort has recalled that last January the launch of an ambitious call for 270 positions was announced, which now, with these 90 approved this Wednesday, represents, in Martínez Llabrés’ words, «an unprecedented public employment offer for 2025, with a total of 360 municipal job positions, doubling the total number called in the previous four years when, in addition, a large part of them corresponded to stabilization processes.»
Of the 360 positions, almost half are intended to improve the human resources of the security forces of Palma, demonstrating that «strengthening the human and material resources of the Police and the Bombers de Palma is a priority line for this Government team.»
«This important allocation of resources reflects the willingness of the municipal government for them to carry out their work with the excellence that characterizes them,» added the mayor, who also wanted to acknowledge «the effort and dedication of the Police and the Bombers de Palma, who work tirelessly every day to ensure the safety of all.»
Specifically, the mayor has pointed out that 170 positions will be called for the Local Police, with the aim that by 2026 the police force will have a total of 275 more positions, almost reaching the 300 that they committed to increasing at the beginning of the term.
Likewise, Martínez Llabrés has also announced that, at the next negotiation table on March 25, the reclassification of the Bombers body with the professional career will be approved, with retroactive effects to January 1, 2024, when the first budgets of this government team were made.
It is worth noting that the security budgets for 2025 are historic for the second consecutive year, with an allocation exceeding €136 million. The mayor has explained that this commitment is reflected not only in strengthening human and material resources, but also in the improvement of security facilities in Palma, which, in the case of the Bombers, is exemplified by the renovation of the sa Teulera park, which had not been adapted for over 30 years, or the parallel renovations in the auxiliary park of Platja de Palma, as well as the rescue of the Fire Brigade park, which will be effective this year and, therefore, from next year, investments can be made.
Furthermore, material resources are being improved and increased, with an investment of €1.5 million for the acquisition of vehicles, €350,000 for the future fire practice park, and €100,000 to enhance the Civil Protection area, which had also been neglected.
Regarding the Local Police, the mayor has reiterated the goal of having a more efficient, closer to the citizen, and more visible Local Police force on the streets, highlighting the creation of the Proximity Community Team (ECOP), a unit made up of 30 agents, designed to ensure the coexistence and security of all citizens, or the «hot spots» map of the city, with patrols of 18 and 24 hours in places like Plaza de España or Plaza de las Columnas, in addition to the construction of the new police station in Parc de les Estacions. Also, this year the processing of the new barracks in Nou Llevant will begin, which will be part of the innovation district.
On the other hand, he has explained that within the public call approved this Wednesday, there are also various positions for different categories and specialties of municipal staff to strengthen all areas of the Ajuntament, «responding to the commitment to improve the efficiency and quality of municipal services, making administration more agile and efficient.»
Specifically, within the 90 positions approved today, the following have been created: 17 social worker positions, 7 architect positions, 1 economist position, 2 Civil Engineers positions, 3 technical architect positions, 2 technical construction engineers positions, 1 library assistant position, 2 medium-level computer technician positions, 3 socio-cultural animator technician positions, and 8 social worker positions.
Additionally, 5 draughtsman positions, 3 construction assistant positions, 2 socio-cultural animator positions, 4 library assistants positions, 1 construction attendant position, 1 family worker position, 1 scenic spaces assistant position, and 4 tradesman assistant positions have also been approved.
Finally, Martínez Llabrés has emphasized that this increase in positions «is a decisive step and represents a turning point to end the inertia of the last 8 years of mismanagement and staff shortage that had impoverished the quality of public service.»
«It is essential to have all the necessary municipal staff, which is the fundamental pillar on which the proper functioning of the Ajuntament is based to build a safer, cleaner, and more citizen-friendly Palma,» he concluded.
