Jaime Martínez highlights the public-private collaboration to build 88 affordable limited-price homes in es Pil.lari.

Palma, March 13, 2025 – The Mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez Llabrés, visited on Thursday, along with the Minister of Housing, Territory, and Mobility, José Luis Mateo, a development of 88 limited-price homes being built in the neighborhood of es Pil-lari. During the visit, the mayor emphasized that this development is a clear example of the effectiveness of tools provided by public administrations to build affordable homes. He stated, «This is the beginning of the offer that should exist in the market, affordable and limited-price homes.» Martínez Llabrés reiterated that the efforts of the administrations in this sector have enabled the private sector to step up to solve a long-standing issue regarding affordable housing. He highlighted the collaboration between the Balearic Government and the City Council to address the housing shortage.

In the specific case of Palma, Martínez Llabrés pointed out that the City Council is committed to building affordable homes. He mentioned that a few months ago, they put out a tender for 360 homes and are working on releasing 1,200 more in the coming months, aiming to have close to 2,000 homes for rent at limited prices by the end of the term. The three developments in Es Pil•larí involve a joint action of constructing a total of 88 new homes, a 314 m² socio-cultural facility, and a 586 m² healthcare facility. The completion and keys handover for the first of these developments, consisting of 16 HPL homes and the socio-cultural facility, are expected in the first half of 2026, according to the promoter’s estimates.

Martínez Llabrés expressed gratitude for the involvement of the neighborhood association of Es Pil.lari, emphasizing that in this area, the construction of the Community Center, which has been delayed for years, will begin in 2025. This will be complemented with other facilities that will address the historical deficit in amenities in this neighborhood.
