The cultural calendar of the city of Palma eagerly awaits the arrival of April 23rd to celebrate Sant Jordi and the activities organized to also commemorate World Book Day.
The streets of the Balearic capital will be filled with people browsing the outdoor book stalls and enjoying the wide variety of activities organized around the celebration of literary figures like Cervantes and Shakespeare.
In Palma, the Gremi de Llibreters de Mallorca, with the support of the City Council and the Consell de Mallorca, has presented a diverse range of initiatives for all audiences under the title ‘Sant Jordi és una festa!’, with the main highlight being the book stalls set up by bookstores in various locations in the city.
Other activities planned include traditional author signings and a wide range of activities, including book presentations, workshops, discussions, talks, games, and recreational activities, among many other initiatives.
WHERE ARE THE BOOK STALLS? TIMINGS AND LOCATIONS
As usual, the central component of the day will be the outdoor book stalls, available to the public from 9:00 AM to 8:30 PM on April 23rd, located in various spots in the center of Palma such as Plaza de Cort, Plaza de Marquès del Palmer, Plaza Mayor, Calle Sant Miquel, Plaza de Espanya, Via Roma, and La Rambla, among other locations.

Also, on April 23rd, from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM and from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM, there will be a parade featuring the ‘caparrots’ na Rosa and en Tom, dancing to the rhythm of the xeremiers and the members of the group ‘Estupendos Burruños’, moving through the streets and squares where the stalls will be set up.
ACTIVITIES IN THE LIBRARIES
Furthermore, from April 19th to April 26th, the Culture Department of the Palma City Council has planned a diverse range of cultural activities in municipal libraries, including storytelling, handicraft workshops, comics, ‘titelles’ (puppets), bookmarks, and health, a literary contest for young readers titled ‘Llegeix i comparteix’, organized by the Joan Alcover library, a photographic and bibliographic exhibition ‘Els noms dels boscos són art’ at the Ramon Llull library; book clubs, film screenings, discussions, and a healthy workshop.
Additionally, the program offered by municipal libraries includes the award ceremony for the I Premi de Narrativa ‘Prat de Catí’ (Thursday, April 24th, at 7:30 PM, at the Sant Jordi library); the screening of the movie ‘Cien libros juntas’ (Thursday, April 24th, at 7:00 PM, at CineCiutat), with the presence of the director of the film, Marga Melià, and the lead actors; and the guided tour ‘Una passejada pels racons literaris del centre de Palma’ (Saturday, April 26th, at 10:30 AM, with open registration at the Cort library).
