The Palma City Council initiates the renovation works of Avenida Joan Miró within the framework of the El Terreno Renovation Plan.
Palma, June 16, 2025 – The Palma City Council, through the Infrastructure, Accessibility, and Industrial Estates department, has started the improvement works on Avenida Joan Miró, between Plaza Gomila and Calle de la Pedrera.
This intervention, covering an area of 1,300 square meters, has a budget of 221,524 euros and an estimated execution period of eight weeks. The works include expanding the sidewalks to enhance accessibility, burying the overhead electric crossing, and planting new trees to increase shaded areas on the avenue.
To minimize inconvenience to residents and businesses, the works will be divided into five phases. Traffic on Joan Miró will be controlled by alternating traffic lights, coordinated with Plaza Gomila, allowing circulation in both directions.
Additionally, Robert Graves Street will be closed at the height of Lanuza Street, diverting traffic to the latter and allowing only Emaya vehicles and loading trucks to pass. Calle de la Pedrera will be closed in the upward direction, ensuring passage for local residents.
Continuation of the El Terreno Renovation Plan
This intervention continues other actions framed within the El Terreno Renovation Plan. Among them, the improvement of Germans Schembri Street and the remodeling of Plaza Gomila stand out, with an investment exceeding 155,700 euros. In this area, the pavement has been renewed, new planters have been installed, and aerial service lines have been buried.
Furthermore, the Public Lighting service is upgrading the area’s lighting, replacing 389 light points with LED technology, resulting in economic and energy savings. The Parc de la Quarentena has also been improved and rehabilitated. In these iconic gardens connecting El Terreno with the Paseo Marítimo, new urban furniture, lighting, and playgrounds have been installed, among other actions.
All of this demonstrates the Palma City Council’s commitment to improving and beautifying urban neighborhoods, promoting more accessible, sustainable, and welcoming spaces.
