El Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics en Artesantander 2025

The Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics (IEB) is present at Artesantander 2025, the second longest-running contemporary art fair in the country, which is taking place from July 11 to 15.

In a press release, the Conselleria de Turismo, Cultura y Deportes has announced that, once again, the IEB is participating in the 33rd edition of Artesantander, the second longest-running contemporary art fair in the country, which will bring together over 40 national and international galleries at the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos de Santander.

The IEB and Artesantander have a collaboration agreement to organize an individual exhibition of a Balearic artist at their stands at the fair. As a result of this agreement, the IEB has launched an open call for the selection of an exhibition project.

‘Paisatges suspesos: natures mortes marines’ by Jorge Diezma, curated by Cristina Anglada, has been selected as the winning project of the open call to host an individual exhibition of a Balearic artist at this institution’s stand at Artesantander 2025.

The project revisits and reinterprets a historical subgenre of the Baroque period: the maritime still life, which emerged in 17th century Italy. Featuring fish and objects linked to the maritime environment, these still lifes are not only a tribute to this tradition, but also a critical reflection on the processes of transmission, popularization, and re-appropriation of pictorial language over the centuries.

The Balearic creators’ projects presented at the fair so far include ‘La marca visible’, a collective exhibition focused on drawing with Mònica Fuster, Albert Piña, Cristòfor Pons, Isabel Servera, Cruz Ugarte, and Damià Vives (2017); the exhibition ‘Salvavidas’ by Amparo Sard (2019), and ‘Paisatge amb Cavall’ by Catalina Julve (2024).

Llorenç Perelló, the director of the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics, who attended the opening of Artesantander 2025, stated that «the participation of Jorge Diezma, curated by Cristina Anglada, with the support of the IEB, once again at Artesantander, is a great opportunity to showcase the work of Balearic artists.»
