Francesc Moll i Marqués, a reference in Catalan culture, passed away this Saturday.
This was confirmed by Nova Editorial Moll and the Francesc de Borja Moll Institution in a statement, where they express their support and affection to the family for the loss of an «essential» figure in Catalan culture over the past fifty years.
Born in Palma in 1937, Francesc Moll i Marqués continued the work started by his father, Francesc de Borja Moll, and was the soul of the publishing house founded by him over 90 years ago, in 1934, which continues to this day both through the Moll Institution and Nova Editorial Moll.
Francesc Moll i Marqués was the manager of Editorial Moll from 1967 until its closure in 2015, due to the economic difficulties that shook cultural production in those years. He also made possible the reestablishment of the historic label, now as Nova Editorial Moll, thanks to the cultural association named after his father.
With a degree in Economics, he was also an activist in favor of the Catalan language, historical heritage, and the Environment, being a founder and president of the GOB.
PROHENS LAMENTS THE LOSS OF FRANCESC MOLL
Upon hearing the news, the President of the Government, Marga Prohens, lamented the loss of Francesc Moll, highlighting that he «leaves a great legacy» as a reference in promoting literature and thought in Catalan.
Through a message posted on the social network ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), reported by Europa Press, the president also highlighted that Francesc Moll was a man «committed to the Balearic Islands» and an active defender of the environment, which led him to be a founding member of the GOB, an organization he presided over.
«My condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues,» the president concluded.
