Ampliación de la oferta de empleo público para la policía local de Palma

Jaime Martínez Llabrés announces a public call «historiador» to offer 170 new positions to the local police.

The mayor emphasized that by 2026, Palma will have around 275 agents, reaffirming the commitment to reach 300 police officers in this term.

The public employment offer will be extended this year with the creation of 100 municipal jobs.

Palma, January 31, 2025 – The mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez Llabrés, announced an extension of the public job offer for this year, with the commission of a call for 170 positions for the local police, which the mayor described as «unprecedented» due to the ambitious number of positions never offered before.

As Martínez Llabrés indicated, this growth, supported by the majority unions, is in response to the historical budget of the Citizen area for this year, exceeding 136 million euros and initially considering the provision of 135 police officers. During the union negotiations session, the extension of this call to 170 agents was approved, 35 more than initially planned, in addition to the 50 officers currently in practice and the 55 training officers from the new positions announced in 2024.

Therefore, it is estimated that by 2026, the police force will have a total of 275 positions, more than half of the 300 that Martínez Llabrés promised to increase during this term, as reflected in the government program.

The mayor explained that «the priority is to improve security in the city and strengthen the human and material resources of the local police and fire department, so they can carry out their work under the best conditions,» emphasizing the allocation of 3 million euros for vehicle purchases, equipping 12 more stations, and up to 850,000 euros for equipment and materials. «This increase in resources is a recognition of the effort and dedication of the security forces, who work tirelessly every day to ensure the safety of everyone,» he said.

Martínez also highlighted the implementation of actions for a more efficient local police force, closer to the citizens and more present on the streets. In this regard, he mentioned the creation of the Community Proximity Team (ECOP), a police unit of 30 officers dedicated to ensuring the coexistence and security of all citizens, and the development of a map of the city’s «hot spots» with 18 and 24-hour patrols in places like Plaza de España or Plaza de Las Columnas.

During his speech, the mayor also announced that on March 30, the finalization of the new local police planning plan is planned, which has been outdated since the last approval 14 years ago, with a defined work schedule between the police, unions, and the public service, allowing for a more modern and efficient organization to meet the needs of a city that has experienced significant population growth.

In terms of new projects, it is also planned that the new police station in SES Estacons Park will be launched soon, and this year the new Rosnt de Cazarmi will begin processing, «another historical request from the police.»

In addition to the approved increase in public employment offers, the mayor also announced the creation of 100 new jobs for various municipal areas. Among them, the call for 68 positions for administrative assistants, 8 for general administration technicians (TAG), 3 for lawyers, and 12 for subordinates, with 7% of positions reserved for people with disabilities.

The provision of the required personnel is in response, according to the mayor, to another «major commitment» of the government team to provide the best possible service to citizens, with a more agile and efficient administration to address the current deficit of municipal workers generated in recent years.

«The largest budget in history requires qualified personnel, such as officials, who, with their excellent work, prove to be essential in carrying out all the projects we implement to improve the city,» concluded the mayor.
