Bernat Xamena presenta ‘4 illes, un reto solidario’ para ELA Balears y Alzheimer

Bernat Xavier Xamena presented the project ‘4 illes, un repte solidari’ on Tuesday to benefit the ELA Baleares association and various associations of family and friends of Alzheimer’s patients. Next week, Xamena will complete four long-distance triathlons in the four islands over four consecutive days to raise funds for these associations. Specifically, the first will be in Formentera (May 29), the second in Ibiza (May 30), then Menorca (May 31), and will conclude on Sunday (June 1) in Mallorca.

«My intention was to create a completely charitable challenge, not personal or sports-related, but charitable to raise awareness and funds for ELA Balears and the associations that work with family members and Alzheimer’s patients,» he explained.

The President of the Government, Marga Prohens, attended the project presentation at the Consolat de Mar and described the challenge as «a demonstration of overcoming obstacles, commitment, and above all, generosity.»

«Without a doubt, you are a lesson in life and an inspirational example,» Prohens said, while expressing the «support and recognition» to Xamena on behalf of the Government, the island councils, and the City Council of Palma, who are also collaborating with the initiative.

Similarly, the Government leader emphasized that diseases like ELA and Alzheimer «require more research, resources, and, above all, more visibility.» She also stressed that the Government is «fully aware» that «when diseases like these enter a home, nothing is ever the same.»

Therefore, she recalled that in the first year of the legislature, the Government approved a new monthly aid of 1,000 euros for individuals diagnosed with ELA, accompanied by a tax deduction that is now in effect to ensure that the aid goes entirely to the affected individuals and their families.

She also noted that the Government has allocated over 1.1 million euros for projects aimed at providing care and promoting autonomy for the social integration of individuals, including those affected by Alzheimer’s.

Finally, she acknowledged the work carried out by ELA Balears and the associations that work with Alzheimer’s patients, emphasizing that they are «a key part.»

On her part, the President of the ELA Balears association, Cati Rigo, expressed «immense gratitude» to Bernat Xamena, highlighting his willingness to organize charitable events for the organization.

«Thank you for your solidarity and dedication. Actions like this make our struggle and that of Alzheimer’s visible,» she emphasized.

To conclude the event, Bernat Xavier Xamena, a musician with the Municipal Band of Palma, performed accompanied by guitarist Guillem Fullana.

Also present at the event were the Minister of Health and the Minister of Families and Social Affairs, Manuela García and Catalina Cirer, respectively, as well as the President of the Council of Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, and the Mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez.
