Cort joins the celebration of Sant Jordi 2025 with various activities to promote reading in municipal libraries.
Palma, April 15, 2025 – The first deputy mayor and councilor for Culture, Javier Bonet, attended the presentation of the Sant Jordi 2025 activities in Plaça Major de Palma. This event is organized by the Gremi de Llibreters de Mallorca with the support of Ajuntament de Palma and Consell de Mallorca.
Also present at the information session were the president of Gremi, Miquel Ferrer, the insular director of Culture, Guillem Ginard, and representatives from the organizing entity and the book sector.
The event, one of the most anticipated and crowded cultural events in Palma, has adopted the theme ‘Sant Jordi és una festa!’ (Sant Jordi is a celebration!) this year. As usual, it aims to promote reading among all segments of the population through a wide range of activities including book presentations, author signings, workshops, discussions, talks, games, and recreational activities.
The highlight of the day will be the outdoor book stalls available to the public from 9 am to 8:30 pm on April 23. These stalls will be located in various places in the center of Palma such as Plaça de Cort, plaza de Marquès del Palmer, Plaça Major, calle Sant Miquel, Plaça Espanya, Via Roma, and la Rambla.
Additionally, from 11 am to 1:30 pm and from 5 pm to 7:30 pm, there will be a parade featuring the ‘caparrots’ na Rosa and en Tom, dancing to the rhythm of the xeremiers and the group ‘Estupendos Burruños.’ They will roam the streets and squares where the stalls will be set up.
Ajuntament de Palma will provide logistical and operational support for the event, as well as take care of maintenance and surveillance of the areas where this year’s Sant Jordi will take place.
Moreover, from April 19 to 26, the Culture department of Cort has planned a diverse range of cultural activities in municipal libraries. These activities include storytelling, handicraft workshops, comics, puppetry, bookmarks, health workshops, a literary competition for young readers titled ‘Llegeix i comparteix’ organized by the Joan Alcover library, a photographic and bibliographic exhibition ‘Els noms dels boscos són art’ at the Ramon Llull library, book clubs, film screenings, discussions, and a healthy workshop.
In addition, the program provided by municipal libraries includes the presentation of the I Premi de Narrativa ‘Prat de Catí’ (Thursday, April 24, at 7:30 pm, at the Sant Jordi library), the screening of the movie ‘Cien libros juntas’ (Thursday, April 24, at 7 pm, at CineCiutat) with the presence of the director Marga Melià and the lead actors and actresses, and the guided tour ‘Una passejada pels racons literaris del centre de Palma’ (Saturday, April 26, at 10:30 am, with open registrations at the Cort library).
This comprehensive and engaging program aims to celebrate Sant Jordi 2025 and promote the joy of reading and literature in the community.
