The Sa Pobla City Council has reported that tap water is not suitable for human consumption due to deviations in nitrate concentration and has recommended avoiding its consumption until further notice.
In a public notice, the City Council has conveyed this information after detecting «occasional deviations in nitrate concentrations above the maximum levels established by health regulations» in sanitary controls.
Therefore, the City Council recommends not using tap water for drinking or cooking, although it can still be used safely for other purposes.
In the municipal announcement, it has been explained that the limitation of the water treatment plant, designed for a smaller population, hinders meeting the current demand of the municipality. This increase in demand in recent years makes it impossible to guarantee the removal of nitrates from the necessary flow.
Faced with this situation, the ‘pobler’ council is working to resolve it as soon as possible. On the one hand, they have connected the network, through an agreement with the Ministry of the Sea and Water Cycle, to supply drinking water from the north artery, which connects to the Alcúdia desalination plant. On the other hand, they are improving the water treatment plant.
