The Consell de Mallorca has awarded the Premis Mallorca Jove 2025 to new talents in poetry and narrative in Catalan. Specifically, ten students and four finalists have been honored.
The award ceremony took place at the Misericòrdia and was attended by the island’s president, Llorenç Galmés, and the vice president and councilor for Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, who presented the awards to the winning students.
As highlighted by the Consell, the call for submissions has been a success with the participation of 76 individuals from 13 educational centers, which is 16 students and three centers more than last year.
The island’s president emphasized the institution’s work in helping young people learn about the roots and vocabulary of the traditional tales that are already part of Mallorca’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.
He also noted that one of the requirements for this call was that the submitted works must include some of the following words: ‘Embalum’, ‘rebost’, ‘trinxet’, ‘cabellera’, ‘colgar’, ‘sarau’, ‘betzol’, ‘sarró’, ‘esflorar’, ‘falaguer’, ‘pitxorina’, ‘averany’, ‘testa’, ‘buina’, or ‘garrit/garrida.’
«It is exciting to see how the Premis Mallorca Jove, in this second edition, continue to inspire a growing number of young people in Mallorca. The increased participation reflects the enthusiasm and commitment of the new generations to the island’s culture, reaffirming the importance of this competition as a promoter of youth talent,» he celebrated.
