The President of the Government, Marga Prohens, has stated that the Parliament deserves «exemplarity and attitudes befitting the position» after being asked about the possible suspension of the president of the regional chamber, Gabriel Le Senne, once it has been confirmed that he will be tried as the alleged author of a hate crime.
This was expressed during the press conference following the Conference of Regional Presidents when questioned about this situation, against which she considered herself to have been «very clear» after he broke the image of victims of Franco’s repression during a plenary session.
«I maintain this stance for the Parliament, institutions deserve exemplarity and an attitude befitting the position,» said the regional president, who emphasized that Le Senne was «very unfortunate» on that day.
However, she acknowledged the fact that he apologized on the same day and has requested, as she did on Thursday, that judicial timelines be respected. She also highlighted the «discrepancies» between the prosecutor and the investigating judge, as the latter decided to proceed with a trial against the former’s recommendation.
She also urged respect for the timelines of the regional chamber, leaving it to the parliamentary groups to decide whether to activate the mechanism to suspend him from his rights and duties as a member of parliament.
«There are different tools that may or may not be employed, and I believe that my role as president is to respect the separation of powers, respect parliamentary timelines, and respect what will happen in the coming weeks,» she concluded.
