The PSOE Group in the Consell de Ibiza has considered the proposal announced by the president of the island institution, Vicent Marí, to eliminate the 9,000 hotel places as «totally insufficient and cosmetic.»
According to the socialists in a statement, at the same time, Marí maintains his support for the «tourist predation» decree law agreed between the PP and Vox, which closes the door to the degrowth measures demanded by the citizens of Ibiza.
«Leaving the number of places at zero only means maintaining the current fixed picture of saturation instead of opting for a decrease and softening with the places that are deregistered,» they have pointed out from the PSOE Group in the Consell de Ibiza.
In the words of socialist spokeswoman Elena López, «the PP resurrects 15,000 tourist rental places in Ibiza with the tourist decree law agreed between the PP and Vox.» In this sense, López has criticized that it allows «speculating» with these places entering a buying and selling pool.
«This announcement is nothing more than a makeup operation to cover up its unconditional support for the tourist decree of the PP and Vox, which only serves to maintain the policies that worsen the housing crisis and tourist saturation,» denounced Elena López.
Among other things, the socialists have criticized that Marí’s announcement does not include any commitment to the fight against the housing crisis. They have also denounced that the Sustainability Board of the Balearic Islands has been a «waste of time» since, in their opinion, the major decisions in tourism policy have been made separately.
