The workers of the externalized ‘escoletes’ in Palma will continue their protests in the coming days as part of an indefinite strike to demand equal pay with their colleagues in the Integrated Centers of the Municipal Schools Board.
This decision was made on Tuesday afternoon at a meeting held at the UGT headquarters in Palma, which marked the ninth day of protests, according to union sources.
During the meeting, union representatives briefed the workers on the current status of negotiations with the concessionaire company, the lawsuit filed against the minimum services imposed by the Palma City Council, and the upcoming planned protests.
The first protest will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday in Plaza de Cort, as they have been doing during these strike days. The next one will take place on Friday at 6:00 pm, and unions encourage families of the ‘escoletes’ students and other members of the educational sector to attend.
Jaume Coll, from UGT Ensenyament, believes that the ‘escoletes’ workers are more determined than ever and have supported the decision to continue the indefinite strike.
THE APPEAL AGAINST THE MINIMUM SERVICES
During Tuesday’s meeting, Pepa Ramis, the representative of Education 0-3 at CCOO, explained that the lawyers representing the workers in the lawsuit against the minimum services were present.
According to Ramis, the City Council has until Thursday to provide the necessary justification for imposing the minimum services, which range from 80 to 92 percent depending on the center.
Ramis estimates that the City Council will wait until the last minute to submit the documentation to the court, after which the judge will have to determine the validity of the minimum services.
