Los Socialistas denuncian comentario machista de Galmés a consellera

Galmés apologizes after criticism from PSIB and MÉS: «If I have made any inappropriate comments, I apologize»

The Socialists in the Consell de Mallorca have publicly denounced the «completely sexist and inappropriate» comment made by the island’s president, Llorenç Galmés, during Thursday’s plenary session towards a socialist councilor.

While defending a motion from PSIB on tourism, socialist councilor Joana Maria Adrover sighed, and Galmés, with his microphone open, asked, «What was that? A silent orgasm?»

After the intervention, socialist spokesperson Catalina Cladera demanded that the Consell president immediately retract his remarks about Adrover, considering it a «completely inappropriate and sexist comment.»

Cladera requested that the plenary session be halted and that the president apologize for his behavior. Adrover also demanded an «immediate» rectification from Galmés.

«Instead of doing his job as president of this Chamber, he behaved as if he were at a bar laughing and making sexist comments about me and my intervention,» she denounced, adding that it was «intolerable.»

At that moment, the plenary was being presided over by vice president Antònia Roca, who said she was «listening» to the socialists’ demands but did not stop the plenary as requested and urged to continue with the agenda.

The MÉS per Mallorca councilors joined the call to halt the plenary and expressed their support. «We are not joining because we don’t know what they are talking about,» said Vox, at which point Adrover repeated Galmés’ words.

Later, when the president returned, before continuing with the session, he apologized for his words. «If I have made an inappropriate comment, I retract my words and apologize to Mrs. Adrover. I have no problem doing it,» he said.

The spokesperson for MÉS per Mallorca in the island institution, Jaume Alzamora, expressed his «absolute condemnation» of the president’s behavior. «It is intolerable and unworthy of the position he holds,» he concluded.
