Palma, July 7, 2025. The Ajuntament de Marratxí has expressed its support for Palma’s candidacy as the European Capital of Culture for 2031 by signing a collaboration agreement between both municipal corporations, which took place on Monday at the sociocultural space of sa Refinadora in the town of es Pont d’Inca.
The document was signed by the mayor of Marratxí, Jaume Llompart, and the first deputy mayor and councilor for Culture of the Ajuntament de Palma, Javier Bonet, who traveled to Marratxí accompanied by the director general of Cultural Projects, Gori Vicens.
This support adds to the endorsements received by the project led by Cort from other institutions and entities, such as the Government of the Balearic Islands and the Council of Mallorca.
After the signing, the mayor of Marratxí highlighted that Palma is, in his opinion, «the natural choice to take on the challenge of cultural capital, as it represents the heart of an island with a rich cultural tradition and strong social dynamism.»
Meanwhile, the first deputy mayor of Cort expressed gratitude for the support from the municipality of Marratxí and emphasized that sa Refinadora, the venue of today’s event, «could be a focal point of the capital, as this is not an exclusive project of Palma but of all municipalities and citizens of this island.»
