Cort improves the care and protection of cats in feline colonies through a new ark model
The device, presented by the deputy mayor and councilor of Natural Environment, Llorenç Bauzá de Keizer, at Son Serra Parera Park, will be gradually distributed among the 260 existing colonies in Palma, all supervised from the CSMPA of Son Reus
Palma, March 14, 2025. The deputy mayor and councilor of Natural Environment, Healthy Environments, Markets, and Innovation, Llorenç Bauzá de Keizer, presented on Friday the new models of arks designed and manufactured at the Animal Protection Health Center (CSMPA) of Son Reus to be distributed among the different feline colonies in Palma.
The presentation took place at Son Serra Parera Park, in the es Secar de la Real neighborhood, with the presence of the veterinary director of the CSMPA, Rafael de Juan, and a group of volunteers who care for these colonies. Currently, there are 270 registered colonies in Palma located in various areas of the city, all under the control and supervision of the specialized staff of Son Reus and the municipal Department of Animal Welfare.
During his speech, the deputy mayor highlighted that the feline colony system «has allowed for the proper balance between providing adequate care to street cats and the equally legitimate right of citizens to have public roads in optimal conditions of hygiene and cleanliness.»
The cost of manufacturing the arks presented today amounted to 3,500 euros. These devices are more functional and efficient than those previously used in feline colonies, as they allow volunteers to deposit food in an easier and more comfortable way, providing more space and protection for the cats.
Cort and the Animal Welfare department plan to gradually distribute the model set up today at Son Serra Parera Park to the rest of the colonies. In this regard, the CSMPA of Son Reus will continue manufacturing more arks over the coming months.
