Més per Menorca has proposed to the rest of the political forces represented in the Parliament to reach an agreement to try to modify the discounts system for residents on flights.
As explained by the spokesperson for the Menorcan party, Josep Castells, this morning he has presented a formal proposal to the parties to establish a study commission in the regional Chamber to address this issue.
From this, he detailed in the press conference after the Spokespersons’ Committee, a unanimous proposal should emerge to send a bill to the Congress of Deputies to modify the Special Regime of the Balearic Islands (RBE), which is the one that includes discounts for residents in the Islands.
Although he did not specify how it should be changed — that should come out of the eventual commission — Castells argued that it is necessary to take measures to change a system «that is a scam and only serves for airlines to fill their pockets.»
«I propose to make a systematic and deep reflection on this failed system, which costs hundreds of millions of euros to the State but does not lower prices,» he pointed out.
Castells has expressed confidence that it will be an issue on which consensus can be found among all citizens and, therefore, among all the political forces that represent them.
The spokespersons for PSIB, Iago Negueruela, and MÉS per Mallorca, Lluís Apesteguia, have also commented on this proposal. The former has requested time to study the idea before evaluating it, while the latter has expressed a positive view of it.
«In the current system of resident discounts, distortions have been observed, airlines end up taking advantage of the discount to make more profit than they should,» said the ecosovereigntist.
