Mora destaca el papel del PSOE en cuatro años difíciles

The secretary general of the PSOE Menorca, Susana Mora, opened the 15th Congress of the Menorcan socialists on Saturday, highlighting the party’s role in what she described as four «challenging years.»

In her address, Mora emphasized the party’s resilience and organization during these particularly difficult years. She reflected on the past four years, marked by the COVID-19 health crisis, noting the party’s ability to reorganize and field candidates in all eight municipalities of the island, as well as in the Consell Insular and the Parliament.

«We have stood by our representatives in the institutions, providing rigorous, resolute opposition faithful to socialist values,» Mora stated. She criticized the current PP government, accusing them of attempting to undermine Menorca’s model through backdoor tactics like reforming the Insular Territorial Plan or implementing administrative simplification measures that seek to legalize illegal constructions on rural land.

Mora also chastised the PP for their failure to uphold sustainability projects, such as the Menorca Biosphere Reserve Law, and their reluctance to enhance Se Milà or restrict vehicle access to the island. She highlighted the loss of investments from Next Generation funds and the lack of effective solutions to the housing crisis, criticizing the PP for only proposing a yet-to-be-implemented assistance program.

In response to these challenges, Mora called for a strengthening of the socialist project and a united front against the PP’s «constant deception» across various government levels. She emphasized the need for prepared individuals and internal resources, which have helped restore credibility to the PSOE, expressing confidence that in 2027, the Socialist Party will win the elections and implement a policy of proximity.

The Mayor of Maó and Secretary General of PSOE Maó, Héctor Pons, opened the congress by highlighting the Orfeó Maonès as a critical space for dialogue and critical thinking. He underscored the importance of reaffirming the values held for over a century in Menorca and Spain and emphasized the congress as an opportunity to democratically define and debate the party’s future with new ideas and proposals.

Amanda Fernández, the secretary general of the Socialist Federation of Mallorca, stressed the urgency of taking a stand against the social regression she attributes to the PP. She called for defending decent housing, robust sustainability policies, and the rights of Menorcans, advocating for active participation and dialogue in shaping the future.

Finally, Cosme Bonet, the organizational secretary of PSIB-PSOE, praised Susana Mora’s leadership during her tenure at the helm of PSOE Menorca. He highlighted the party’s successes in reclaiming the Consell Insular and tackling the major challenges facing Menorcan society.
