Palma celebrates Universal Accessibility Day with a participatory event at Parc de la Mar

On Saturday, May 17th, workshops, sensory circuits, and inclusive activities for all audiences will be offered.

Palma, May 12, 2025.- The City Council of Palma will celebrate Universal Accessibility Day this Saturday, May 17th, with a full day of activities at Parc de la Mar from 10:00 to 14:00, aimed at all ages and designed to promote citizen participation and awareness.

This was announced on Monday at a press conference by the Councilor for Infrastructure, Accessibility, and Industrial Estates, Belén Soto, accompanied by the Director General of the area, Pedro Led, and the head of the Accessibility service, Gloria Penalva.

The program includes workshops, sensory circuits, adapted sports exhibitions, accessible guided tours, sign language storytelling, and live music, thanks to the collaboration of over twenty social entities that work daily for inclusion.

«This May 17th is an iconic date, under the slogan ‘Put yourself in my place,’ to realize what people with disabilities of any kind face. Ultimately, it is a day to put ourselves in the other’s shoes, share experiences, and continue moving towards a Palma without barriers,» emphasized the deputy mayor during the presentation.

In this sense, she highlighted some of the «firm steps» taken by the City Council in recent months with the aim of improving the accessibility of the city, such as the acquisition of the first inclusive changing tables for Palma or the update of the General Accessibility Plan of the City.

«We want accessibility to be present in all municipal areas and in all decisions that affect public spaces. And we are doing it hand in hand with the associative fabric, listening, learning, and moving forward firmly,» she pointed out.

To conclude, the councilor thanked all those who made it possible to celebrate, once again, this event, and invited the entire population to «participate and enjoy a day where inclusion will be the real protagonist.»
