PalmaActiva drives the digital transformation of self-employment with new grants for investments in equipment and software

Palma, July 21, 2025.- The Local Development Agency of the City Council, PalmaActiva, has launched a new call for grants aimed at supporting the modernization and digitalization of self-employment in Palma, an initiative that seeks to strengthen the economic viability and job retention by incorporating innovative technologies into local businesses.

The Councilor for Commerce, Restoration, and Self-Employed, Lupe Ferrer, highlighted that «it is the first time that a Directorate General of Self-Employed individuals promotes grants like this.» «They are pioneers in Spain in the field of grants managed by a general directorate of a city council in provincial capitals, representing a decisive step to boost self-employment that is not yet consolidated,» she added.

The call is aimed at individual self-employed persons (microenterprises) who have made investments during 2024 to modernize or digitize their activities. The purpose is to promote processes of transformation, renewal, and digital adaptation that contribute to the sustainable growth of the self-employment sector in the municipality.

The Director General of Self-Employed, Juan Antonio Tormo, emphasized that these grants provide «special support to newly created companies and aim to help entrepreneurs, self-employed individuals, and small businesses improve the efficiency of their businesses and face the great challenge posed by the implementation of artificial intelligence in their activities.»

Details of the Call
The main objective of the grants is to promote investments made in 2024 related to the digital transformation of self-employment in Palma, providing resources to acquire durable hardware and software that improve the efficiency and competitiveness of businesses.

To be eligible for the grants, it is necessary to have made investments of a minimum value of 500 euros (excluding VAT). The grant covers up to 80% of the cost of eligible investments (excluding VAT). The maximum amount per beneficiary will be 3,000 euros, and the minimum grant amount will be 400 euros.

Grants can be requested for expenses related to basic computer equipment and peripherals, equipment for point of sale and commercial management, machinery for manufacturing and prototyping, connectivity and networks, and software licenses.

The requirements to obtain these grants are to have fiscal domicile or activity in Palma, to be registered with RETA or a mutual society since January 1, 2022, to be considered microenterprises (less than 10 employees and a balance sheet of less than 2 million euros), and to have activity registered in the Entrepreneurs Registry (IAE Sections 1st, 2nd, or 3rd) during 2024.

Applications will be evaluated through competitive bidding, taking into account the total budget invested (up to 10 points), personal or social circumstances (up to 3 points), and in case of a tie, the application submitted first will prevail.

The deadline to submit applications will be 20 business days from the official publication in the BOIB, and they must be sent through the electronic headquarters of PalmaActiva.
