The president of the Govern, Marga Prohens, has reiterated that her Government will resort to «all means» to reject the distribution of unaccompanied migrant minors and will do so «out of responsibility and humanity.»
«They are children, not packages,» Prohens said in statements to the media at an event presenting an agreement with Social Security, after being asked about the Sectorial Conference on Childhood and Adolescence convened for this Thursday.
She argued that they are against the distribution «out of humanity» because «all people, especially minors, deserve to be welcomed in dignified conditions»; and «out of responsibility to the Balearic Islands in the face of this massive migratory phenomenon that had never occurred before.»
«They are children, not packages, and I believe that the Spanish Government thinks they are packages,» she criticized, while also emphasizing that the distribution of minors «is not the solution.»
In her opinion, the central Government must do three things: defend the borders, fight against mafias, provide resources, and have a «true» immigration policy.
She also asked the Government to «clarify among themselves,» criticizing that the Ministry of Childhood acknowledges that the archipelago is hosting more than 200 minors beyond its capacity, and «the next day says they will continue to send minors.»
«If so, not to other autonomous communities, because we already know that there are first and second-class communities here, and I refuse for the Balearic Islands to be a second-class community,» she concluded.
