The Mobility Department of the Palma City Council has authorized 210 temporary municipal taxi licenses from May 1 to October 31 of this year.
According to the area led by Toni Deudero in a press release, ten of these licenses will be allocated to vehicles adapted for people with reduced mobility.
Taxi drivers applying for these temporary licenses must meet a series of requirements, such as the driving authorization being personal and non-transferable, and cannot be transferred or leased under any circumstances.
In addition, the service provision will be limited to the municipalities of Palma and Marratxí, and no service can be started in the port area, airport, or areas of Can Pastilla and Playa de Palma, from Calle Déntol to the boundary with the municipality of Llucmajor.
The City Council has noted that since the beginning of the legislature, a total of 460 people have passed the taxi driver courses, resulting in improved service for users.
Specifically, Mobility has offered several calls for taxi drivers since July 2023. In the first call, 71 taxi drivers were approved; in the second call, held in February 2024, the number of approvals increased to 150; in the third call, also held last year, there were 116 approvals, and in the latest call in January of this year, the number of approvals was 123.
