The Deputy Mayor of Natural Environment, Healthy Environments, Markets, and Innovation, Llorenç Bauzá de Keizer, presents the acquisition of two ICU units, an ultrasound machine, and two infusion pumps, among other equipment.
Palma, February 25, 2025. The Deputy Mayor and Councilor of Natural Environment, Healthy Environments, Markets, and Innovation, Llorenç Bauzá de Keizer, visited the facilities of the Son Reus Animal Protection Center on Tuesday to introduce the new surgical and sanitary veterinary equipment acquired by the City Council of Palma.
Also present at the event were the Director General of Animal Welfare, Sebastià Pujol, and the center’s veterinary director, Rafael de Juan.
During his speech, the Deputy Mayor emphasized that providing high-quality care to dogs, cats, and other species is a top priority for the government team, aiming to create «a friendly, welcoming, hospitable, and humane city for animals.»
The investments announced by the councilor focus on improving the services provided at the Son Reus clinic, with the goal of transforming it into a top-level veterinary care facility.
The City Council has invested €14,150 in acquiring a cutting-edge ultrasound machine, two infusion pumps for serum delivery, two continuous care units (ICU) for small animals equipped with oxygen and serum therapy, a monitor with a touchscreen to measure CO2, temperature, and heart rate, among other parameters, an oximeter for oxygen saturation, and an anesthesia vaporizer.
In addition to this advanced medical and surgical equipment, the investments have also expanded the facilities for animals housed at Son Reus. Specifically, the City Council has purchased 20 raised plastic beds, 50 elevated canvas beds, and a new aerothermal heating system to ensure the maximum well-being and comfort of the animals in these enclosures, all at a cost of €2,060.
The councilor also highlighted that positioning Son Reus among the best veterinary centers in the area also requires increasing human resources. Therefore, in the near future, the facility will add a fifth veterinarian to the current four, as well as a fourth administrative assistant to join the three already working in the Son Reus offices.
Bauzá de Keizer concluded the presentation by emphasizing the City Council’s efforts to improve the conditions and resources of the facilities, showcasing the government team’s commitment to raising the standards of veterinary care and animal welfare in the city.
