The drug operation carried out by the National Police in the La Soledad neighborhood (Palma) on Monday resulted in the arrest of five men and the seizure of 274 marijuana plants and over a kilo of cocaine.
The Baleares Police Headquarters reported that during the operation, four home searches were conducted, one of them at a drug-selling point that was «bunkerized.»
In these properties, two marijuana plantations were found — one in its initial phase with 87 plants and another more developed one with 187 plants. Additionally, over a kilo of cocaine was seized.
One of the houses had a security camera through which the suspects monitored the street and could alert each other of the police presence, while another acted as a drug-selling point.
According to the police, the latter was a «real bunker» as its doors were sealed with concrete walls and bars. Accessing it required the intervention of the Technical Intervention Operative Group (GOIT) agents and various Public Safety units.
After breaking through the fortification, they arrested the man inside and found cocaine and cash that the suspect had tried to dispose of by throwing it into an inner courtyard.
Four more men were added to the arrests as alleged perpetrators of drug-related offenses. In addition to the drugs and cash, the officers also confiscated a machete.
The investigation, which lasted for several months, was led by the Drug and Organized Crime Unit (Udyco) of the Police Headquarters and coordinated by a Court in Palma, which imposed secrecy on the proceedings.
The operation on Monday also involved officers from the Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR) and the Scientific Police, as well as canine units and aerial resources.
