The Govern has accused the central Government of «threatening» them with not sending the ordinary credit to finance the care of unaccompanied migrant minors in Balears 2025 and demands its transfer, as it was a point approved unanimously in the preparatory Sectorial Commission.
From the Balearic Government, they have ensured that the Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego, has informed them that the suspension of the Sectorial Conference scheduled for this Thursday, due to the boycott of the PP autonomous communities, would prevent this financial transfer, as explained by the Ministry of Families, Social Welfare, and Care for Dependents in a statement.
The minister of the department, Sandra Fernández, has stated that «if there was willingness,» a Sectorial Conference could have been held with this point and advance with the financing, since «there was agreement from all autonomous communities on this point.»
Likewise, she has claimed that this credit must reach the Balearic Islands, although she considers the planned two million euros to be «completely insufficient.»
«The central Government must stop making excuses and transfer this money to the Balearic Islands. However, the Govern reiterates that it is an insufficient amount to cover the expenses derived from the care of these children, a care that is a priority because these minors cannot become a political tool,» she argued.
On the other hand, Fernández has asked the Government Delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez, to explain to the central Government the «overcrowding» currently experienced by the services for minors, which are «over 1,000% above their capacity.»
For these reasons, the minister has asked Rodríguez to «not turn a blind eye» and to «inform the central Government of the situation in the Balearic Islands,» with a «consolidated route of irregular migration,» which she reproaches the Ministry of the Interior for «ignoring or not wanting to acknowledge.»
In this regard, the Govern recalls that the Balearic Islands are currently hosting more than 200 minors above their capacity, which «puts the protection system for minors at risk of collapse.» Thus, they have warned that the Govern «does not have guarantees to provide quality care to minors arriving from other territories of the State.»
The minister has reiterated the reasons that led the Govern not to attend the Sectorial Conference, like most of the regional ministers, which led to the meeting being suspended due to lack of quorum.
«The agenda of this meeting was annulled with the vote against the majority of autonomous communities in the Sectorial Commission, but what the Govern will not tolerate is the Ministry’s blackmail, which threatens not to transfer the financing of services for minors and instead moves forward with the arbitrary distribution of minors to all autonomous communities except the Basque Country and Catalonia,» she asserted.
