El Govern oficializa la adquisición de cuatro fincas públicas en Artà y Capdepera

The Govern has officially announced the purchase of the public estates of Son Jaumell in Capdepera and Cala Torta, Cala Mitjana, and Cala Estreta in Artà.

The acquisition of these four estates, totaling 583.9 hectares and located in protected areas, involved a total expenditure of 33.8 million euros, as reported by the Govern in a statement.

«This operation represents a key milestone for the preservation of the natural and cultural heritage of Mallorca, as the acquired estates are located within areas of maximum environmental protection, such as the Natura 2000 Network and the Natural Park of the Llevant Peninsula,» highlighted Prohens.

The estates also include the Cap des Freu Natural Reserve, an ecological enclave where emblematic species such as the osprey (Pandion haliaetus) and the cormorant (Phalacrocorax aristotelios) nest.

The President linked this action with the Govern’s strategic line of acquiring public estates for the conservation of the territory and biodiversity protection to ensure responsible public use and enable the public to enjoy the natural heritage, something they intend to continue with other estates.

The acquisition of these four estates will expand the network of itineraries in the Llevant Peninsula Natural Park with new paths connecting natural, scenic, and historical points of interest, specifically in areas such as Coll de Marina, the watchtower of Son Jaumell, and access to the beaches.

In this way, Prohens added, «the public ownership of these lands will not only allow for ecological restoration and control of invasive species but will also facilitate the organization of access to the untouched coves of Artà (Cala Torta, Cala Mitjana, and Cala Estreta) and improve the protection of their surroundings.»

Simonet, on the other hand, emphasized the heritage and ethnographic value of these estates, which house elements such as the defense tower of Son Jaumell, lime kilns, charcoal huts, and remains of traditional constructions that «represent a key resource for environmental education and cultural interpretation.»

The councilor also highlighted the presence of dune systems, coastal forests, and Mediterranean meadows, ecosystems that harbor a great biodiversity and endemic plant species of high botanical interest.

With this operation, Capdepera now has, for the first time, a public estate of almost 500 hectares. Artà expands the set of public estates in its municipal area with an additional 92.97 hectares, added to the existing ones of Betlem, s’Alqueria Vella, Albarca, Es Verger, and Sa Duaia.
