Rosario Sánchez critica el negocio de PP y Vox con las necesidades de la gente

The vice general secretary of PSIB, Rosario Sánchez, has criticized that "PP and Vox make business with people’s needs" and has warned that the party aims to return to power in 2027 because "they will not allow the islands to be put up for sale."

Rosario Sánchez made these remarks on Saturday during her speech at the Festa de la Rosa of the Socialist Group of Calvià, attended by more than 200 people and also featuring the Secretary General of PSOE Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez.

The vice general secretary of PSIB took the opportunity at the Festa de la Rosa to assess the two years of Govern under Marga Prohens, which she claimed "have seen a decline in quality of life, rights, access to housing, democratic memory, and the tourism model for which the Balearic Islands were once a reference."

Specifically, Sánchez criticized that the Balearic Islands are being ruled by "the same old PP," accusing them of being in power "for their own business interests and not to improve the tourism model, schools, health centers, or workers’ conditions." "They are here to profit from people’s needs and those of their associates."

The socialist leader highlighted that the current government has not taken measures to address issues such as rental price limits or the hotel industry agreement, which affects 200,000 families in the region. She recalled Vice President Antoni Costa’s promises to mediate if things get complicated, to which she responded, "Things have already gotten complicated."

Regarding the tourism situation, the vice general secretary of PSIB denounced that the PP has been stalling for six months on a sustainability pact, failing to act against overcrowding and not fulfilling their promised measures. She emphasized that while the Balearic Islands were previously known for responsible tourism practices, they are now making headlines for potential strikes during peak season, harming workers, families, and the local economy.

Therefore, Sánchez stated that the socialists aim to restore the prestige the Balearic Islands once had as a region capable of negotiating and reaching broad agreements in sustainable tourism. She lamented the PP’s response to the housing shortage, criticizing their approach of freeing up land and benefiting developers at the expense of residents’ needs.

She also highlighted the ongoing budget negotiations involving urban planning measures, criticizing the PP and Vox for prioritizing their interests over public services, in contrast to the PSIB’s history of approving budgets to enhance essential services for the community.

In conclusion, Rosario Sánchez warned that the islands, people’s rights, and workers’ interests are not for sale, as the right-wing parties prioritize profit over hope. She reassured that the PSIB will stand with the people and strive for a better future in 2027, emphasizing that life will be better with the socialists.

DESPEDIDA DE ALFONSO RODRÍGUEZ COMO SECRETARIO GENERAL DE PSOE CALVIÀ

The Festa de la Rosa also served as a farewell to Alfonso Rodríguez as the Secretary General of PSOE Calvià, after leading the group for 13 years, eight of which he also served as mayor of the municipality. He received a tribute from fellow socialists who were part of various municipal executive committees.

The tribute coincided with the 10th anniversary of the electoral victory that ended 12 years of PP rule in the municipality, ushering in eight years of the Socialist Party of Calvià. During this time, a path of modernity, innovation, and focus on the people was initiated, which will be continued in the coming years.

Reflecting on the main achievements of the socialists, Rodríguez emphasized the allocation of 18 million euros for public housing in the last term, contrasting it with the lack of action from the PP and Vox.

He also criticized Prohens for failing to address the issue of overcrowding, leading to the same problems in the third summer of right-wing government. He stressed the need to take action when tourism cannot provide a decent living, calling for immediate solutions.

In conclusion, the municipal secretary general called for maximum effort to defend public assets and warned that there are only two years left to reclaim all institutions by 2027.
